SUMMARY:The Librarians (Free Screening + Discussion)
DESCRIPTION:Librarians emerge as democracy’s first responders in this powerful documentary about the recent American book bans and the heroes who battle them. Breakout group discussions moderated by librarians from Lebanon and Wilder/Quechee libraries will follow this screening. \nIn Texas\, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQIA+ stories\, triggering sweeping book bans across the US at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate\, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of White Christian Nationalism fueling the censorship efforts. \nDespite facing harassment\, threats and laws aimed at criminalizing their work\, the librarians in this Sundance Film Festival hit maintain their sense of humor and the belief in their work’s importance. Their rallying cry for the freedom to read sets an inspiring example for all seeking to protect rights guaranteed by the First Amendment. \nD: Kim A. Snyder\, US\, 2025\, 1h32m\n \nThis film is presented in partnership with Hopkins Center For the Arts at Dartmouth College and Upper Valley Food Co-op Documentary Club.\n \nAdditional screening of The Librarians at The Hop on July 26\, 2025 at 7:00 PM. \nMade possible in part by VT Humanities and Joyful Living Fund.

SUMMARY:Story JAM: Bi-Monthly Storytelling Circle
DESCRIPTION:THEME: “Newcomer”\nIn a society increasingly divided and isolated\, storytelling can bring us together. Story Jam is a bi-monthly story circle where community members can meet to get to know each other through personal stories. All members of the Upper Valley community are invited to join the circle and share an unrehearsed 5-minute true story from their own life. No competition\, no judgment\, no lecturing\, no ranting… Just share a story about something that happened to you and listen to other people’s stories. Whether you are a new or seasoned storyteller; whether you are shy or extroverted – all are welcome! The moderators will keep track of time to make sure everyone has a chance to speak.\nSponsored by Upper Valley Welcome Wagon\nGreen Mountain Center for Economic Developement’s Upper Valley Welcome Wagon helps to get new residents connected to the community and build great lives here. SUMMARY:American Movie with Upper Valley Doc Club
DESCRIPTION:Very few documentaries ever achieve the cult film status of Chris Smith’s American Movie. Filmed between September 1995 and August 1997 in Menomonee Falls\, Wisconsin\, American Movie chronicles the efforts of newspaper delivery man and aspiring filmmaker Mark Borchardt to complete his horror film Coven. Like Lost in La Mancha or Joderowsky’s Dune set in the Midwest\, Borchardt preservers through numerous setbacks\, including economic hardship\, poor planning\, alcoholism\, and the ineptitude of the friends he enlists as his production team. \nHilarious\, eccentric\, and sometimes sad\, American Movie won the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival. Amy Goodman of IndieWire called the film “an inspiration for filmmakers everywhere.” American Movie is a must watch for rural artists trying to break out and for anyone with a creative passion. \nA moderated group discussion will follow this screening so stick around after the show! \n \nThis film is presented in partnership Upper Valley Food Co-op Documentary Club.

SUMMARY:Song for the Sea: An Installation By Natalie Jones
DESCRIPTION:Song for the Sea is a video installation exploring the textures and sounds of various bodies of water: lakes\, ponds\, river currents\, waterfalls\, and streams were filmed across Vermont\, and ocean sequences were filmed in Maine. The work connects multiple landscapes\, utilizing digital grain\, layered imagery\, and manipulated audio recordings to depict abstracted but natural environments in a state of continual change.  \nExhibit open 9-5 M-F and during JAM events. Art opening on First Friday\, September 5\, 2025. \nABOUT THE ARTIST\n \nNatalie Jones is an experimental filmmaker and video artist who works with the landscape. She is inspired by patterns of abstraction within the natural world. She combines several practical and digital filmmaking techniques in her experimentation. She was a winner of the 2025 WRIF Emerging Filmmakers Contest and her work has been screened at several film festivals in New England.

SUMMARY:Tallywacker Screening and Live Band Performance
DESCRIPTION:A rock and roll buddy comedy about 2 bandmates whose relationship gets tested when one of them gets a gig touring with a major rock star. This screening is accompanied by a live performance from two-piece rock duo\, Tallywacker! \n\n \n \n TALLYWACKER RSVP\n \n \n Name\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email\n \n Number of attendees\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ \n \n\nTRAILER\n \nABOUT THE FILMMAKERS\nBrendan Boogie (Writer/Director/Producer) \n \nA Massachusetts native\, Brendan is an LA-based director with three award-winning feature films – including Sundown and The Sympathy Card  – under his belt. His background in psychology allows Brendan to tell funny\, compelling\, and human stories in a unique and moving way. \nJeremy Dubs (Producer/Actor/Musician) \n \nJeremy Dubs is a musician\, actor\, disabled activist and City Councilor who has been flying by the seat of his wheelchair his entire life\, learning how to navigate inaccessible and ableist environments since childhood. In 2004\, at the age of 27\, he moved from central Pennsylvania to western Massachusetts to dedicate his time to performing with his rock band. His creative pursuits throughout the years led him to singing on the first new Pixies album in 20 years (Indie Cindy\, 2014)\, and acting in the lead role of “Aleister Budd” in the new independent comedy film Tallywacker\, loosely based on his life as a touring musician with a disability. Recently\, Jeremy released a new album called Horror Spectrum with his psychedelic-prog band Bunnies. As an activist\, he co-founded the anti-ableist organization called the Disableist Movement with his friend Olivia Marshall. On April 23\, 2022\, the two of them led a march through the streets of the city of Northampton\, chanting messages demanding more accessibility such as “ADA is not enough. Reasonable access now!” and “Why are we in the streets? Because the sidewalks suck!” On November 7th\, 2023\, Jeremy Dubs was elected to be the first wheelchair user in the history of Northampton’s City Council. Jeremy has remained a constant vocal advocate raising awareness to the rights and freedoms of all disabled people. He is currently finishing up his first term and is running for re-election this November\, which coincidentally is also the month that Tallywacker will be released on digital streaming services across the world. \nChris Goodwin (Producer/Actor/Musician) \n \nChris is a Boston-based actor\, producer\, writer\, and director. He wrote\, directed\, and produced the award-winning romantic comedy On the 7th Date and has appeared in acclaimed films including Eephus\, Everwinter Night\, Ice Patrol and Adult A.D.R. Chris has been a multi-instrument musician throughout his life and is currently the bassist for the indie rock band Warrens when he’s not rocking out with Tallywacker. \n
