SUMMARY:Redlining Our Souls by media artist Laura Di Piazza
DESCRIPTION:Artist Laura Di Piazza (b. NYC) will exhibit work from her Redlining Our Souls (ROS) series\, opening First Friday March 3 with the artist from 5-7pm and running through the month as the centerpiece of JAM’s March programming theme “Home in the World\,” an examination of housing justice locally and globally.  ROS includes redlining maps and description language issued by the defunct government-sponsored Home Owners’ Loan Corporation (HOLC) highlighting blatant and coded racist housing segregation practices. The racist attitudes and language found in HOLC appraisal sheets and Residential Security Maps created by the HOLC gave federal support to real-estate practices that helped segregate American housing throughout the 20th century. [1] \nThe exhibition also includes a slide projection highlighting racial covenants in property deeds that included restrictive clauses which prevent white homeowners from re-selling or renting to Black Americans. The altered segregation redlining maps and descriptions are paired with the artist’s abstracted integrative paintings. \nJAM will be giving away 6 free copies of Richard Rothstein’s The Color of Law. \n[1] Freund\, David M. SUMMARY:Flux/Flow/Elegies: An Installation by John R. Killacky
DESCRIPTION:Vermont artist John R. Killacky will kick off JAM’s month of Radical Love with “Flux/Flow/Elegies.” His intermedia installation features three recent video pieces\, including the premiere of one inspired by the Fluxus movement of the 1960s that valued process-oriented art and a dialogue between artist and spectator. The other works include a collaboration with choreographer Eiko Otake speaking to their dead mothers and an abstract work with tears. Killacky’s videos have been screened in festivals\, galleries\, museums\, hospitals\, and universities world-wide and are in the collections of numerous libraries and universities. \nDrinks and hors d’oeuvres reception with the artist Saturday\, Feb.11 7-8:30pm. Installation on display at JAM Feb 1 – Feb. 28 from 9am-5pm Monday-Friday.

DESCRIPTION:An evening of author readings from new works presented by JAM and the Norwich Bookstore\n\nBrooklyn-based short story writer Sara Lippmann reads from her first novel\, Lech (published fall 2022). Illustrator and cartoonist Ricardo Siri reads excerpts from his graphic novels. Poet and Professor of Creative Writing Vievee Francis reads selections from her work.  And Norwich-based author Peter Orner read selections from his newly released non-fiction collection\, Still No Word From You.  Free & open to the public\, RSVP required.\n\n\nBooks for sale at JAM thanks to the Norwich Bookstore with book signing to follow.\n\n“Orner is a highly lauded author whose writing\, in both fiction and nonfiction\, is an act of wizardry. His dedication to music documentation has left an indelible mark on the arts community here in the Upper Valley\, creating a priceless archive of local talent that is sure to delight us all for years to come. \nJoin us in the JAM space from 5-7 to experience a multi-projection display of Chad’s work through the years. Sit down and listen to a wide array of Upper Valley musicians\, or simply embrace the visuals and follow Chad on his journey all throughout the Green Mountain river valleys. \nFree and open to the public.

DESCRIPTION: Local artist Charlie Rose will present a debut media arts installation “My_movie.mp4\,” a video art experience using internet videos from 2006-2013 which have been corrupted and manipulated to create visual abnormalities. The work will be on display free to the public December 19-23 from 5:00 – 6:00 PM at JAM – Junction Arts & Media\, 5 S. Main Street\, 1st Floor\, White River Junction\, VT.  \n“My_movie.mp4” is an exhibit exploring exposure to the internet as a child. This challenging\, often abstract digital collage was created through deleting I-frames and hex bending. This process breaks the videos – like the virtual version of hitting a DVD player with a hammer. This creates a pixelated Rorschach test which invites its viewers to create meaning out of contextless images. \nArtist Bio: Charlie does digital art and is employed at JAM. \n
