SUMMARY:Moving in Stillness\, Stillness in Moving: An Installation by Carla Kimball
DESCRIPTION:Opening night party and live performance: October 1st\, 6:00 – 8:00 pm\nUpper Valley artist Carla Kimball will open her video/photo installation “Movement In Stillness\, Stillness In Movement” which explores the idea of being on a journey in multiple layers.  The installation will kick off with a live performance art piece in collaboration with movers Marie Fourcaut and Donna Steinberg\, as well musicians Hilary Lynch\, Devan Tracy\, and Henry Danaher.  An artist talkback and Q&A will follow. \n\n\nCarla Kimball is a long-time photographer\, dancer\, and emerging filmmaker.  She is most interested in engaging viewers in a direct experience of her images and films. Recently\, her exploration of stillness and movement has led her to project images and films on floating panels of fabric. Multiple projects have evolved from this inquiry including films of performers moving from panel to panel through natural landscapes as well as dancers moving through still photos projected onto the panels.\n\nThis installation will be on display at JAM during our office hours Monday-Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm through October 22. Following his later work as a strategy consultant to nonprofit and for-profit companies\, Google hired Matt to create their community affairs program. More recently\, his passion for empowering rural communities was turned into action with an appointment at the MIT Media Lab and when he founded the Center on Rural Innovation\, an action tank dedicated to closing the opportunity gap in small towns and where he now serves as Executive Director. \nDon’t miss hearing what Matt has to say about what Vermont and U.S. rural businesses need to know to thrive.

In addition to an early career in politics during which he served seven years in the Vermont House of Representatives on progressive economic efforts and youth empowerment\, Matt was employed by the Clinton Administration as Director of the AmeriCorps*VISTA program overseeing 6000 full-time people in the fight against poverty. Following his later work as a strategy consultant to nonprofit and for-profit companies\, Google hired Matt to create their community affairs program. More recently\, his passion for empowering rural communities was turned into action with an appointment at the MIT Media Lab and when he founded the Center on Rural Innovation\, an action tank dedicated to closing the opportunity gap in small towns and where he now serves as Executive Director. \nDon’t miss hearing what Matt has to say about what Vermont and U.S. rural businesses need to know to thrive.

Come see it anyway\, a soap bubble reflecting the sky! \nOriginal musical play written and directed by Duncan Nichols featuring Kate Magill\, Soren Lavoie\, Chico Eastridge\, Emily Eastridge\, Chris Hebb\, Chiho Kaneko\, WIll Moore\, Noor Taher\, Neal Meglathery\, Henry Nichols\, Alden Nichols\, Rias Blaas\, and Dan Daneen with costumes by Abby Smith\, paintings by Antoinette Jacobson\, and Dramaturgy by Mike Backman and Nora Jacobson \n\nThis event is a fundraiser for DIGS (Doorways Into Good Shelter) digsvt.org. DIGS is a housing organization in Lebanon/Hartford to help directly shelter unhoused people. We will be raising money for two of their small mobile houses — it’s a good cause and needs our support.
