SUMMARY:Moving in Stillness\, Stillness in Moving: An Installation by Carla Kimball
DESCRIPTION:Opening night party and live performance: October 1st\, 6:00 – 8:00 pm\nUpper Valley artist Carla Kimball will open her video/photo installation “Movement In Stillness\, Stillness In Movement” which explores the idea of being on a journey in multiple layers.  The installation will kick off with a live performance art piece in collaboration with movers Marie Fourcaut and Donna Steinberg\, as well musicians Hilary Lynch\, Devan Tracy\, and Henry Danaher.  An artist talkback and Q&A will follow. \n\n\nCarla Kimball is a long-time photographer\, dancer\, and emerging filmmaker.  She is most interested in engaging viewers in a direct experience of her images and films. Recently\, her exploration of stillness and movement has led her to project images and films on floating panels of fabric. Multiple projects have evolved from this inquiry including films of performers moving from panel to panel through natural landscapes as well as dancers moving through still photos projected onto the panels.\n\nThis installation will be on display at JAM during our office hours Monday-Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm through October 22. Stop by and enjoy.\n\n

SUMMARY:Myth Makers – Musical Play Premiere
DESCRIPTION:In a thousand years\, will there be music\, or will music have to be conjured? (NOTE NEW LOCATION at HOTEL COOLIDGE) \nCall it a utopian play — that is forward-looking\, proposing something nearly perfect — seeking to be perfect as in the perfection of imagination — which\, granted\, is not real. Come see it anyway\, a soap bubble reflecting the sky! \nOriginal musical play written and directed by Duncan Nichols featuring Kate Magill\, Soren Lavoie\, Chico Eastridge\, Emily Eastridge\, Chris Hebb\, Chiho Kaneko\, WIll Moore\, Noor Taher\, Neal Meglathery\, Henry Nichols\, Alden Nichols\, Rias Blaas\, and Dan Daneen with costumes by Abby Smith\, paintings by Antoinette Jacobson\, and Dramaturgy by Mike Backman and Nora Jacobson \n\nThis event is a fundraiser for DIGS (Doorways Into Good Shelter) digsvt.org. DIGS is a housing organization in Lebanon/Hartford to help directly shelter unhoused people. We will be raising money for two of their small mobile houses — it’s a good cause and needs our support. Pay what you can. For your safety\, the audience is asked to wear proper masks. Make plans to come and bring a little of your great energy\, it’s a Sunday evening\, and not a long show. Get back to your bed early! Help us celebrate the music and the future! Spread the word!

SUMMARY:Juneteenth\, a Celebration of Freedom - The City of Lebanon
DESCRIPTION:Juneteenth\, a Celebration of Freedom. The City of Lebanon Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion Commission invites the community to join us in the City’s inaugural Juneteenth celebration on June 19\, 2022 at 5pm in Colburn Park\, downtown Lebanon. \n\n\nJuneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans. Although President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was issued January 1\, 1863\, it took more than two years for the institution of slavery to end in Texas. On June 19\, 1865\, Union Army General Gordon Granger read General Order No. 3 in Galveston\, Texas\, proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in that state. President Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independent Day Act into Law on June 17\, 2021. \n\n\nThe program will include musical performances\, a reading of the Emancipation Proclamation\, and a presentation about formerly enslaved people who resided in Lebanon and the abolitionist movement in our community. Traditional red punch and red velvet cake will be served. Please join us on June 19 at 5pm for this very special celebration of freedom! \n\nEvent will be recorded by and aired on CATV.
