SUMMARY:Novel Formats #2: The Set Up
DESCRIPTION:The Set Up is the second movement of Rachel Bernsen’s loose performance suite\, Novel Formats. Each movement invites a different group of artists to experiment with a fluid vision of performance\, utilizing their range of expertise and individuality in the service of enacting her improvisational and choreographic structures. Novel Formats #2: The Set Up uses the dynamic of three as its defining structure to explore synthesis\, harmony\, and discord within the construct of an interdisciplinary performing ensemble. \nMany of Rachel Bernsen’s projects are investigations in collaboration and improvisation. Her series\, Novel Formats #1-7\,  is a set of seven performance events\, each prompted by the desire to rethink the understanding of and experience with improvisation as a form of performance and explore the boundaries between real time decision making and overt theatricality. \nEach installment asks the question: what happens when we come together in different social configurations\, each with its own possibilities for improvisation and contact? Improvisation asks us to notice what we’re doing in the moment\, to question learned and internalized value systems. We think our senses are right and true but so much is learned\, habitual. Novel Formats aims to interrupt these patterns through novelty\, risk\, and real time human connection.\n\n$5-10 recommended donation.\n\n\nFEATURING\nEllen Smith Ahern – dancer  https://ellensmithahern.com/ \n \nJulian Barnett – dancer  https://www.julianbarnett.com/ \n \nRachel Bernsen – dancer/director/instigator  https://rachelbernsen.com/ \n \nKyoko Kitamura – vocalizer\, keyboards  https://www.kyokokitamura.com/ \n \nMac Waters – electronics\, violist  https://macwaters.studio/ \n \nWATCH NOVEL FORMATS: A DIALOGUE (NUMBER ONE)\n \nAbout A Dialogue (number one)

SUMMARY:How to Horror with Sarah Wisner and Sean Temple
DESCRIPTION:Brian Carroll of Vermont Production Collective will be in conversation with acclaimed\, Montpelier-based horror directors\, Sean Temple and Sarah Wisner about how YOU can craft a compelling\, short horror film. They will discuss how to build tension\, detailed world-building\, the current state of horror\, and answer audience questions. Come out for this spooky panel discussion and get inspired for JAM’s Halloween-o-thon film contest later in the month! \n\nABOUT THE FILMMAKERS\nSarah Wisner (she/her) and Sean Temple (they/he) are a queer writing and directing team committed to telling character-driven genre stories with personal and socially-conscious themes. They believe that the horror genre is an invaluable entry point to exploring the human psyche and social condition\, and that horror is most effective when it achieves high levels of audience engagement and identification. Wisner and Temple use subtlety and nuance to invite their audiences to derive their own layers of meaning from their thoughtfully composed visuals. Their short films have been featured in numerous festivals and contests\, including Fantastic Fest\, Beyond Fest\, Boston Underground Film Festival\, Sidewalk Film Festival\, White River Indie Film Festival and many more.
