SUMMARY:WRIF Preview Screening: The History of Sound @ the HOP
DESCRIPTION:For Valentine’s day\, join us for a White River Indie Festival 2026 Preview Screening event with our friends at the Hopkins Center! In The History of Sound\, Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor play early 20th-century music students in this heartfelt\, understated romance that spans decades and continents.\nWhile growing up in rural Kentucky at the turn of the 19th century\, Lionel (Mescal) demonstrates a profound gift for music that leads him to a scholarship at the Boston Conservatory of Music. There\, he meets the upper-class\, polished David (O’Connor) through their shared passion for folk ballads. World War I separates them\, but they reunite for an idyllic musicological field trip through rural New England\, listening to and recording local people singing their homemade compositions. \nDirector Oliver Hermanus (Living) creates an intoxicating\, nostalgic period atmosphere\, with folk songs\, augmented subtly by Oliver Coates’s score. Mescal and O’Connor are two of the best actors alive right now\, and they make this beguiling\, hearttugging romance as believable as it is beautiful. \nD: Oliver Hermanus\, US\, 2025\, 2h7m \n  \nTickets: buy on the Hop website.* \n*WRIF Passholders will gain entry for free! Buy passes here. \n  \nFor a full schedule\, tickets\, film guide\, and other information\, visit the WRIF Homepage.

SUMMARY:Dead Man's Wire (WRIF Preview Screening @ the Hop)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a FREE preview of White River Indie Films 2026 with our friends at the Hopkins Center For the Arts!\nBill Skarsgård\, Colman Domingo and Al Pacino star in Gus Van Sant’s kidnap thriller based on the true story of an infamous 1977 ransom over a business deal gone bad. \nOscar nominee Gus Van Sant (Milk\, Good Will Hunting) has used cinema as a means of mirroring American life in all its extremes and complexities. Graced with captivating performances from Bill Skarsgård\, Colman Domingo\, Cary Elwes and Al Pacino\, Van Sant’s latest taps into the culture’s hunger for outlaw folk heroes who seek to wrest control from the privileged elite. \nIt is February 1977. Having fallen behind on his mortgage and\, as a result\, lost the commercial property he’d dreamed of developing\, aspiring Indianapolis entrepreneur Tony Kiritsis (Skarsgård) kidnaps Meridian Mortgage Company president Richard Hall (Dacre Montgomery\, Stranger Things). His ransom demands include the $5 million he believes Meridian deliberately cheated him of and a heartfelt apology from the company’s founder (Pacino)—who is enjoying a luxury vacation in Florida\, a fact that only stokes Tony’s ire. \nThe feature screenwriting debut of Austin Kolodney (Funny Or Die)\, Dead Man’s Wire resonates powerfully with present-day class resentments. It’s also darkly funny\, wildly entertaining\, and rife with appealing supporting characters\, especially Domingo’s beloved local disc jockey\, whom Tony manages to rope into the negotiations. \nFor more info\, visit the Hop website.
