VT Center for Ecostudies Film Screening: The Cost of Control

Join the Vermont Center for Ecostudies (a JAM Nonprofit Member) for a screening of “The Cost of Control,” a short documentary about tick-control, pesticides, and ecosystems.
“The Cost of Control” explores a dilemma facing a growing number of New England homeowners: How do we protect ourselves and our families from ticks without harming the other life that shares our backyards? This short film follows scientists from the VT Center for Ecostudies as they investigate residential tick-control practices across the Upper Valley, revealing the surprising effects of pesticide spraying on pollinators, other backyard insect wildlife, and the ticks themselves. Blending scientific discovery with the perspectives of landowners and conservation experts, our film asks us to think more deeply and holistically about how we interact with the ecosystems that surround us. Following the screening, audience members are invited to stay for a Q&A with Vermont Center for Ecostudies ecologists Dr. Jason Hill and Amber Jones.
